Three ways that mindfulness helps you with inner child work in therapy

Inner child work is extremely useful as you begin your journey of recovering from unhealed trauma.

The first way mindfulness helps is in the preparation for inner child healing. We prepare for the the work through mindfulness because we understand that this type of inner child healing  is a journey. Mindfulness allows us to access our memories: the emotional content, and experiences of our past.  Mindfulness helps you emotionally regulate before you delve into some things that you may not have thought about, may not have had access to as memories for quite awhile.

Mindfulness helps you with inner child work by helping you stay in the process. As you work with your therapist in inner child healing, you will notice times of avoidance and defense, as well as insight, and release. Mindfulness allows you to notice and observe all these fluctuations in your body and in your mind, and, maybe, even in your spirit.

Lastly, we preserve the healing journey of your inner child through mindfulness.  Mindfulness allows the work to be preserved into your neurological memory bank, beyond your limbic system and into more of your long-term memory stores. There  is a neurological flexibility that mindfulness builds. When you can continue to create safety in your mind through mindfulness, the story that your inner child needs to hear can be preseverved and then replayed and recovered again and again. That is the healing power of your inner child –you can more readily make meaning of the past in the context of the here-and-now.

Inner child work is extremely helpful for unhealed trauma and I highly recommend that you work with a therapist who can give you tools to help prepare to stay and preserve this process for the long term.
