Keep your peace this election week: mindfulness practice for a flight response
Flight Response đź’đź’™
Election season can bring up fear and uncertainty, sparking a natural flight response in many of us. Mindfulness helps us recognize this fear as a signal to stay engaged while protecting our peace. By practicing mindfulness, we can take small steps—whether that’s voting, staying informed, or connecting with our community—toward meaningful change. To be mindful, choose soft spot to walk around. When we flee, we are desiring a safe spot to land, ultimately. Ground your feet into the ground and walk slowly. Take few breaths. With one step breath in, with another, breathe out. Move toward a destination—it could be a tree, a patch of grass, or another room in your space. As you move, move with intention, pace yourself. Walk toward a secure place. This place is one of belonging, love, and ultimately joy. Re-familiarize yourself with those words, those feelings, those longings, and visualize how you can invite those feelings into your life this season. Are there people or communities you can invest in, and move towards, rather than flee from?
